IV Sedation (IV Anesthesia)
Dr. Grace Yeh is one of the few pediatric dentists who offer intravenous (IV) anesthesia. A trained anesthesia provider brings all necessary monitors, equipment and medications to Dr. Yeh's office to administer the anesthesia and maintain patient safety. I.V. anesthesia has an excellent safety record and is a very efficient and reliable way to manage pediatric patients.
The anesthesia provider administers medications with precise dosing and monitors the patient throughout the procedure. The child is relaxed, comfortably sleeping, and has no memory of the treatment. The entire treatment planned is typically completed in one visit. Who should receive IV anesthesia?
- Children under the age of 5 who are often unable to cooperate with needed dental care.
- Children who require extensive or time consuming treatment.
- Children with previous bad experiences in the dental office or who have become frightened by scary stories.
- Children with special medical and behavioral management needs.
- Children with severe gag reflex, afraid of needles, or for whom local anesthesia is ineffective.
